East Branch Winter’s Run

– PROJECT –

Overview

Ecotone, Inc. prepared a concept plan, performed geomorphic assessments and developed the restoration design for the restoration and reconstruction of 1,750 linear feet of East Branch Winter’s Run and an unnamed tributary, located in Harford County, Maryland. The project also included reconnecting the channel and the creation/restoration of 7+ acres of forested nontidal wetlands within the Winter’s Run floodplain. The project was sponsored by the Maryland State Highway Administration to offset environmental impacts associated with the Hickory bypass roads project.

Ecotone, Inc. performed a site search of the watershed, worked with the landowner to facilitate access to the floodplain area of the farm property, designed, permitted, and provided construction oversight. Ecotone restoration design utilized natural channel design and included the use of root wads, boulder vanes, cross vanes, wetland sod transplants were also incorporated to provide immediate bank protection and stability. Much of the material required for construction was obtained on-site to reduce hauling costs, including tree/logs and wetland sod.
