Bee Tree Run

– PROJECT –

Overview

The first property purchased by Ecotone for ecological restoration, Bee Tree Run Farm had previously been a farm with row crops on the steep slopes with livestock grazing on the broad floodplain of Bee Tree Run. The goal was to connect several forested parcels by planting native trees and shrubs.

The property is bisected by Bee Tree Run, one of the most productive trout streams in Maryland that flows into the Gunpowder River. The 100-acre property in Baltimore County was reforested with native hardwood trees and shrubs, along with stream restoration to improve habitat for trout. Tree species were carefully selected to provide food and cover for wildlife species. When Ecotone originally purchased the property, it retained five development rights. Ecotone donated the development rights to the Land Preservation Trust, a local land trust, to protect the property in perpetuity from development.
