Food Plot Establishment and Maintenance
For many properties the goal of the landowner is to provide more food and nutrients for the growth and development, maintenance, and wintering needs of their wildlife. Through the establishment of food plots, we can supplement and enhance these requirements. One may choose to draw wildlife into a particular area for viewing pleasure or hunting enhancement. This too can be accomplished through food plot establishment. Because wildlife need nourishment 365 days a year, it is essential for overall health and enhancement to provide a yearlong strategy. Food plots are a great way to meet these demands.
Maintaining a good quality food plot is an essential part of the equation. By this point you have invested a valuable portion of your time and money establishing a food plot. Unfortunately, most food plots will not stand alone without maintenance. Depending on the circumstances, you may need to mow, fertilize, lime, or spray your food plot. We have the tools and equipment to identify and prevent potential issues. We stand committed to our food plots and land management goals, and want to see success throughout the entire process.
Native Grasses, Tree and Shrub Planting
An often overlooked aspect of land management is the use of native trees shrubs and grasses. Many Native warm season grasses provide excellent shelter for game birds, song birds, deer, or just about any species you may have on your property. Warm season grasses also can be used as wildlife travel corridors, or Sanctuary Screens. One example of a Sanctuary Screen would include planting a strip of Switch grass alongside a road. This not only provides some shelter habitat, but also a visual barrier onto your property from the road. Switch grass is an extremely low maintenance grass that grows in clusters and to heights of 6-8 feet.
Throughout the seasons agricultural crops or tree mast may be unavailable for consumption for wildlife. Planting Native trees and Shrubs on your property can help to fill this void and provide a year round food supply. Common tree requests are for apple, plum, and Persimmons (deer candy). Many shrubs such as blackberry, raspberry, arrow-wood, and blueberries provide excellent nutrients and food for a variety of wildlife species. Some landowners decide to pick some berries for themselves as well. Our staff provides years of expertise in selecting the proper tree and shrub species to fit your management goals. We also provide the services required for tree purchasing, planting, and protection. |
