Ecotone provides invasive species management and control services for developers, landowners and conservation organizations. We understand the severe implications invasive species can present if left unchecked, and can develop and implement a strategy to help the landowner reduce those risks. Because invasive plant species are widespread in the area, we understand the need to evaluate the coverage, density, and potential disruptiveness of existing invasive species both on the site and adjacent areas. A comprehensive and often long term phased plan is developed. If not addressed during the planning stage of a project, invasive species can jeopardize the overall success of ecological restoration efforts.

Over the past ten years, we have developed methods of managing invasive species by combining several approaches. Removal of existing invasives is the primary objective, and this is normally completed by chemical foliar spray, basal bark applications or cut stump treatments. In some cases, mechanical mowing or brush cutting methods are also employed. To help restrict the regrowth of invasive species, soil is amended to enhance fertility and adjust pH, and native species and seed mixes are installed just after treatment. After initial treatments, we monitor our sites closely and treat any areas of colonization immediately.
